Kobe Bay at Night

Kobe is the capital city of the Hyōgo Prefecture in the Kansai area of Japan and is a part of the Keihanshin metropolitan region.  The city has approximately 1.5 million residents, and one of the main port cities for Japan.  For the dining gourmets, Kobe is also home to one of the world’s greatest delicacies: Wagyu cattle (which in turn becomes Kobe beef).  Tourists and locals alike also flock to the Arima Onsen (“hot springs”) that is located in Kobe. Nearby cities include Akashi (which is located to the west), Ashiya & Takarazuka & Nishinomiya (located east), and Sanda & Miki (which are to the north).  One of the more popular tourist attractions for Kobe is Harborland which is home to a very large ferris wheel.  Moving away from the sea, and into the heart of Kobe are the retail districts of Sannomiya, Motomachi, Chinatown, and Nankinmachi.  The mountain that overlooks the city of Kobe is known as Mt. Rokkō.

The Kobe real estate market features a variety of homes for sale. For expatriates, the homes for sale in Kobe (particularly Mikage and Kitanocho), as well as Ashiya and Nishinomiya comprise the most exclusive residential real estate market in the region for gaijin (“foreigners”). The area homes & apartments are generally larger and feature more modern designs, facilities and conveniences. Kobe homes generally represent a strong value relative to many other locations in Japan. In Tokyo, comparable homes could easily cost 3 times more than they do in Kobe. So Kobe represents a good value in real estate comparatively for many many potential purchasers.

Ashiya Homes

The town of Ashiya which is located immediately west of Kobe, is a much smaller community that is home to approximately 90,000 residents. This smaller community has gained increasing popularity in recent years. Many Ashiya homes feature larger lots, and as such it has allowed the architects and designers to increase the ceiling height to nearly 12 feet – which is unheard of in places like Tokyo (which makes their ceilings much lower because land prices are so expensive). Other attractive features common to many Ashiya homes are flowers at their gates and neighbors taking an interest in ensuring that home maintenance is maintained.

Rokurokuso Homes

The most exclusive area in Ashiya is Rokurokuso which is situated along the northeastern edge of the city. This area attracts many business executives to the region so they can purchase one of the luxury Ashiya homes for sale. Housing requirements are much larger as well in this region starting at a minimum of 200 tsubo (1 tsubo is approximately 35.54 square feet or 3.3 meters). So the 200 tsubo minimum places it at approximately 7000 sq.ft. to start. Which makes Rokurokuso one of the most high end luxury real estate areas in Kobe Japan.
